Pioneers of denim from 1853 to now, Levi's is the inventor of blue jeans. Levi Strauss, an immigrant from Bavaria, opened a dry goods company in San Francisco during the California Gold Rush, and in his desire to create enduring clothes, he and tailor Jacob Davis combined copper rivet reinforcements with tough denim, resulting in the first manufactured waist overalls in 1873. Over the years, Levi's jeans have been worn by miners, cowboys, rock stars, presidents, and everyday men and women.
